What’s in a sunrise?

1

When I was a little girl, I remember loving the ocean even though it was not a place that my family frequented. I’d look forward to the summers where we would drive from California into San Felipe, Mexico, and it would always turn into an ongoing party till the day that we headed back to California.

I could probably count the times that I went to the beach as a teenager. My dad was very, very old school and the thought of his daughter in a bikini was unheard of. Still, the few times that I went I fell in love with the beach life. Fast track to my honeymoon in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Florida. Imagine my surprise when I heard the pilot welcoming us to Ft. Lauderdale and saying that the water temperature was 81 degrees. I remember laughing and thinking that cannot possibly be true, only to put my feet in that clear, blue, WARM water and falling in love all over again with the sea. That day I knew that South Florida would become my home one day.

It’s no wonder that the first chance that I had, I made the move from Los Angeles (where the water is freezing, dark, and your body goes numb before you actually enjoy it) to Sunny South Florida. I moved a few blocks from the beach and from that moment on the beach life became a reality to me. My kids grew up on the ocean, playing on the beach, fishing with their dad and drinking coconut water from the actual coconuts in our backyard. It’s a very healthy way to grow up.

Though I never acquired the home on the beach, I live close enough to enjoy the life that makes my soul rejoice. I can greet the morning by watching the sunrise over the ocean as I walk the boardwalk, and seeing the beautiful sky change colors right before my eyes. For me, that is the perfect way to begin my day. I can also have dinner with fun music playing in the background, people laughing as if they are on vacation as many are, and after dinner enjoy a walk on the sand. The life that I have is a simple one, but make no mistake about it, it’s a full life and the one my heart always longed for. So as the title to this blog reads, What’s in a sunrise? The answer is, everything.

I leave you now with a little piece of my paradise.

     Peace and love.

It’s A Baby Brody Weekend!

IMG_7196

There’s a new baby getting ready to make his appearance into our family. Baby Brody, due this December, has us all waiting with excitement. My daughter moved away a few months ago, but that did not stop her from coming back home for her South Florida Baby Shower a few weeks ago. What a joyful weekend that was. All of you moms out there know that when your children are grown and living away, there is a certain kind of happiness we feel when we have them all together once again.

From sisters to friends to family, we all gathered for a great Baby Shower with Mimosas in hand, and the Photo Booth that was a hit!

The following day, the celebration continued with a typical Cuban party celebrating family. The music was playing, the guests were dancing, and we all indulged in great food and spectacular drinks. I’m content in saying that the beauty of our family parties is that we gather in love and good cheer, always leaving a good memory in everyone’s minds. I can only hope that my children will one day think back to all of the good times we’ve shared, and smile knowing that they were loved beyond words.

Sometimes we stop to take an assessment of where we are in life. I seem to do that every year around my birthday and on New Years Eve, but that weekend I did it again…… and I smiled.

Thank you for visiting my blog, it’s greatly appreciated.

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE: FAMILY

Image

When seeing the weekly photo challenge, I immediately went looking for a family photo. I take pictures on a weekly basis, journaling my life and the lives of my loved ones with pictures. I would love to see old photos of my parents, grandparents, etc. but I know that I never, ever will. Because of this, and knowing how important it is to be able to look back and actually see where your family came from, I take shot after shot of every event. I do this so that one day, my children can actually look back at the memories we created and pass them on to their children.

The photo above was taken when we all went to see a Disney movie with my granddaughter. As usual, I’m behind the camera but pictured are my children, granddaughter and my mother. We normally run on different schedules, and rarely all go to the movies, and a Disney movie? Nah, that does not happen, but for our little one, we changed it all just to be there and we had a great time!

Thank you for stopping by and viewing my photo.

Weekly Photo Challenge – JOY

Image

JOY

When you love photography, you tend to see the world through your camera lens. On a recent photo shoot for a young lady, who I’ve had the pleasure of knowing since she was 8 years old, I was able to capture this photo. It was a few days before her Sweet 16, and her mother asked if I would take some pictures of her to later have blown up for the party. Of course I said yes, I love this kid.

The day of the shoot, things began normally. Stand here, sit there, raise your chin, smile more…..you get the picture (no pun intended). After a while, I chose to go outside and do things as I typically do….my way with no rhyme or reason. I photographed her as she is, beautiful, innocent, kind, and a free spirit. She was loosening up and having fun at that point and I said to her “Just let go.”  With that said, she did, I snapped the picture, and here I give you “JOY” as I see it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog.

Peace and Love,

Lisa

Weekly Photo Challenge: ONE

Hi fellow bloggers and guests,

I stumbled upon the Weekly Photo Challenge this morning. When I saw what the challenge was, I knew that I had the perfect photo.  We are challenged to focus on ONE thing. A week and a half ago, I attended my nephews graduation. While playing with my camera, which I still don’t know how to use the majority of the settings, and trying to find the perfect lighting, I found myself quickly snapping pictures as he was walking back to his seat. Though many of the photos were OK at best, I was pleasantly surprised at one that made me give it a second look. I present to you my photo that represents “ONE” from my personal album.

Who said Saturdays are for sleeping in?

Hello world,

After a week of work and a million other commitments that I had to fulfill, I told myself that I would sleep in and not do a darn thing today. After all, it’s Saturday. Ha! So much for that thought. My granddaughter spent the night and reminded me that I had said that we’d wake up real early and see the sun rise at the beach. That sounded like a good plan a few days ago but certainly not last night so I did what anyone in my position would do……I conveniently forgot to set my alarm.

Not so fast Lisa……

My little one came into my room and persuaded me with those big eyes to keep my word.  The morning was BEAUTIFUL. We had breakfast on the beach and then I took pictures of her enjoying the ocean for an hour. I would not trade this morning for any other because life is made of memories and far too often we let our routine, comfort and procrastination get in the way of what really matters.
